de_welfare_square
de_welfare_square is a custom Counter-Strike inspired by Weldon Square, the neighborhood where I grew up. It is a remake of de_weldonsquare. Both maps share architecture based off of the Weldon Square apartments, which have now been remodeled and named Ashton Pines.
This version of the map includes two bomb sites and more paths for the terrorists and counter-terrorists to explore. In my attempt to keep the map open, I ran into some problems on the map—high polygon count can rise to around 3,000. On most newer computers this is not too problematic… but it does way overshoot the target of under 1,200. Most areas keep the polygon count much more acceptable.
This version was last compiled in May, 2006. I have held off publishing it because I have intended on tweaking the map. But due to a heavier workload than in the past, I doubt that I will work on this map; but in the event that I may work on it, I have kept this as a release candidate at version 3.
Of morbid interest is the fact that bombsite B is based off of the building in which a double murder occurred in February 2007. Two bodies were found frozen in the back patio. There is more information about the murders here.
